Rows of white cots

I don"t remember the day very clearly. I was only four years old at the time so when I think of the events, they somehow seem extremely distant or dream-like. It must have been a warm day as I was wearing a red dotted dress and a pair of sandals. My mother was wearing one of her favourite light pink dresses. When we arrived at the orphanage, it seemed a huge place, but not at all ugly or scary, as I had imagined it. A nice lady led us to a large room on the second floor. Inside the room, there were rows, perhaps ten or twelve, of cot bed with some clean baby bedding inside. In the middle of the room, there was a light pink rug and lots of toys: wooden trains, dolls, teddy bears, rattles, musical instruments and books for children. The walls were decorated with mermaids and fish. All of them were characters of popular cartoons. My mom led me to one of the cot bed that was standing in the corner on the opposite en of the room. A nanny was standing by the bed, trying not to wake up the baby that was sleeping inside. Mom told me to speak quietly and be careful. That was probably the first time I saw my little sister. Of course, it was a long way before she finally could live with us. But I will never forget the day and I keep telling my sister about all the time.
